Manic Monday Mania (Escape- The Pina Colada Song)

Yes folks it is that time again! Monday is back and so is Manic Monday Mania. The high today here in NC is going to be a blistering 53 degrees. Now for folks in the North this will sound like a day for shorts and tshirts but for us folks down south who are accustomed to hot weather, we will be wearing long sleeves and possibly coats.  To add to the cold it is also raining. Can you say Brrrrrr?... It is a soup or chili kind of day around here. I did not take anything out of the freezer last night so I am behind already!  (Keith just told me that we have some still bagged up in the freezer so it won't be too hard to catch up! )

The happenings of this household over the weekend tend to run amuck with the daily life. The twins are sick with the RSV again so its breathing treatments twice a day. Mine & Lil Keith's allergies are acting up. Thank goodness for Zyrtec! To top all of that off the dryer stopped working. This dryer is old and over the hill and it has served us well. My sister actually got it off of Craigslist and used it for a year or two and then she gave it to me when she bought a new matching set. I have used it for over two years, so it has served its purpose and then some.

Needless to say things are as hectic as always around here.  Keith & I were talking about finding a babysitter and having a bit of an Escape together to go watch a movie or something one weekend. I thought the perfect song for today would be "Escape-The Pina Colada Song".  I have never known the entire lyrics of the song but it always sounded tropical and well I just love pina coladas so I was feeling good about it til I actually read the lyrics. Keith & I had a bit of a laugh over it when we did read the lyrics.  I decided to go ahead and use it anyway because it is tropical.

Now "Escape-The Pina Colada Song" is performed by Rupert Holmes. It was released in 1979 and was the last chart topper of the 1970's but fell out of grace the first week of the 80's only to be back on top again the second week of January 1980.  Enjoy the video.

Escape (The Piña Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes

I was tired of my lady,
We've been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording,
Of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping,
I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column,
There was this letter I read:

"If you like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady,
I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady,
Have fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper,
Took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet,
I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food,
I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon,
And cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's,
Where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes,
Then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant,
I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady,
And she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment,
And I said, "I never knew..

"That you liked Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean,
And the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for,
Come with me, and escape."

"If you like Piña Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape."
